A Westminster police officer arrested two suspects after interrupting an apparent robbery attempt.

Officer Miguel Gradilla was patrolling the area of Westminster Avenue and Newland Street when he saw a man running after a bicyclist.

Gradilla stopped the running man who told the officer that he had just been robbed at knife-point.

The man told Gradilla two suspects demanded his bicycle and when he refused, one suspect tried to stab him several times.

The officer caught up to both suspects and detained them until backup arrived.

Police said detectives are investigating whether the crime was gang-related.

Albert Chavez, 25, of Whittier and Adrian Works, 28, of La Mirada were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
